1° Tracing Boards by John Harris
1° Tracing Board, Emulation
After W. Bro. John Harris Oil on panel, circa 1825 This is a close copy of the Apprentice tracing board by John Harris, who modified Josiah Bowring's designs into a form that is still commonly used today in many English-speaking Masonic jurisdictions. The most notable difference is that the Perfect Ashlar has been fitted into a Lewis, a tripod that will lower it into its proper place. Also, the three "preferred" classical orders of architecture are represented not just with pillars but with pediments and entablatures (to emphasize the orders in full). Notes by Shawn Eyer, P.M. |
