Non Confungit
"He Joineth Not"
Iñigo Jones' Triumphal Arch for James I
from Stephen Harrison's Arches of Triumph in London
1604
Iñigo Jones' traditional role in the history of Freemasonry has been a matter of discussion for decades.
The Latin inscription on the scroll at the top of the monument, Non Confungit, is probably a reference to 1 Corinthians 7:38: Qui virginem suam Matrimonio conjunct, bene facit; qui non confungit, melius facit, or "He that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better."
